Dr. John L. Bibb, MDJohn L. Bibb, MD

"I spoke Spanish before I spoke English, so I understand the culture. This is important in providing excellent care to patients and families who are more comfortable speaking Spanish."

Dr. Bibb wanted to be an engineer like his father, but found he had more of an aptitude for molecular biology and medicine. He received his Masters of Science in Biology from the University of Texas–El Paso, and his Doctor of Medicine from the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Dr. Bibb performed his Internal Medicine Residency at the University of New Mexico, and completed a Hematology Oncology Fellowship at the UNM Cancer Center.

An active researcher, Dr. Bibb enjoys investigating new treatments that promise to lengthen patient lives. "Understanding the research aspects of hematology and oncology is a plus," he says. "New research is advanced all the time, and it's important to be able to keep on top of it."

Dr. Bibb is one of the only oncologists in the Valley fluent in Spanish. "I spoke Spanish before I spoke English, so I understand the culture," he says.

Like the other physicians at Southwest Hematology Oncology, Dr Bibb strongly encourages patients to participate in their own care. "Their opinions and decisions," he says, "are incredibly important."
